Make A Difference Day is celebrated each year on the fourth Saturday of October.
Created by USA WEEKEND Magazine in 1992, Make A Difference Day is the nation’s largest day of volunteering, thanks to individuals like you!
USA Weekend Make A Difference Day Mission:
On one day each year, we want to inspire the nation to make a difference. Make A Difference Day is the largest single-day of volunteering in the country. No matter who you are or where you’re from, everyone has the power to do something that improves the life of another. Whether it’s starting a project that helps one person, or working on one that benefits a whole community, every contribution makes a difference.
Join United Way of the Dutchess-Orange Region for our next Make A Difference Day!
Each year United Way coordinates multiple projects in the community for Make A Difference Day. In the past, volunteer teams from local businesses have had the opportunity to work with Boys and Girls Club of Newburgh, Food Bank of Hudson Valley, Habitat for Humanity of Dutchess County, Hudson Valley Community Services, Newburgh Armory Unity Center, Pawling Resource Center and Spark Media Project/Mill Street Loft.
Make a Difference Day is one of the largest national Days of Service that United Way takes part in. Thanks to our amazing volunteers, the past economic impact of Make A Difference Day was valued to be over $19,000! The independent sector values the volunteer time of New Yorkers at a rate of $28.73 per hour.
